Malaya And British Borneo “Buffalo” Banknotes

This is a piece of 1961 Malaya And British Borneo “Buffalo” $10 banknote with Prefix A1. This is no longer a legal tender and these old banknotes are rare in the market. The $10 notes had the signature of Tun Tan Siew Sin as well as the tiger head watermark. The $10 notes had a farmer and buffalo on a padi field in front and the emblems of the 5 states behind.

Varieties & Rarity:

There are 3 varieties of this banknote – depending on the prefix to the Serial Number:
  1. The Serial Number begins with a small capital letter "A" (commonly referred to as: small "A") – this is Rare.
  2. The Serial Number begins with big capital letter "A" (commonly referred to as: big "A") – this is Rarer.
  3. The Serial Number begins with a big capital letter "B" (commonly referred to as: big "B") – this is the Rarest.
